WOODSBORO - The Woodsboro Lady Eagles continued their impressive basketball season with a thrilling and hard-fought victory over the Lasara Lions 65-62. For the third year in a row, the Lady Eagles are Bi-district champs.

This year’s group of young ladies have over come a lack of experience and depth to continue the Lady Eagle tradition of excellence in basketball. They are; Brittney Stewart, Taylor Perez, Jamie Wilson, Brittany Lopez, Danika Vasquez, Toni Martinez, Lourin Stewart, Madalynn Nixon, Michelle Martinez, and Melissa Zuniga.

Both teams competed well in the first half. Woodsboro was able to grab a lead with the score being 24-21. Stewart’s play was outstanding in the first half, leading the Lady Eagles with 11 points.

The teams continued to play championship basketball. By the end of the third quarter, the Lions of Lasara had taken a 44-38 lead. The score did not dampen the spirit of the Lady Eagles.

The team came forth in the fourth with a heart-pounding, fist waving, crowd pleasing effort. To garner the victory, the team scored 27 points in the fourth quarter-the most all season.

The last few minutes of the game created an exciting scenario. Wilson hit a three to take the lead 61-60. Great defense was played by the team. Lasara was fouled and made the score 62-61 taking the lead.

A shot was taken by the Lady Eagles and was rebounded by Nixon for the Lady Eagles to take back the lead, 63-62. Wilson makes a steal with seconds to go. She was fliuled and made both free throws to make the score 65-62.

Victory for the Lady Eagles. “I was totally pleased with the effort of the team.” said Coach Carmichael.

“We would like to thank all of the parents and fans for their support of the Lady Eagles.”

The next game will be in Ganado, on Thursday, at 7 p.m. against Weimar High School.
