KENEDY – The Pettus varsity basketball Lady Eagles wasted no time in exerting their dominance on Friday night. The Pettus girls handled the host Leopards easily for a 56-40 victory.

The visitors took a 14-9 lead at the end of the first period and then added nine to the margin by capturing the second quarter scoring race 15-6.

The Pettus defense pressured the Leopards and worked the ball in low to post Victoria Arrisola, as Kenedy did not have an answer for the Lady Eagle inside game.

Arrisola finished the night with 23 points and 14 rebounds to dominate inside.

The teams played evenly over the second half but the 29-15 halftime margin was too much for the Leopards to overcome. Both teams hit for 10 points in the third period, and the Lady Eagles outscored the home team 17-15 over the final quarter.

Arrisola led the Pettus team scoring, and Hailee Schauer followed with 11 points. Chloe Garza connected for eight points and dished out six assists. On defense, Chloe swiped the ball eight times against the Leopards.

Madi Garza failed to score but came up big on defense with five blocks and 10 steals. Madi also added five assists to her offensive stat sheet on the night. Destiny Carrillo sank six points, Ryan Grayson added five and Savannah DelBosque contributed three.

Hannah Husley did not score but contributed two blocks, four steals and four assists for the Lady Eagles.

They played host to Woodsboro on Tuesday night, and then on Friday, the girls travel to Port Aransas.
