The Lady Trojan varsity softball team used a consistent offense to rack up a decisive 12-2 win over the Miller Lady Bucs in Corpus Christi.

The Beeville girls had 14 hits on the night and scored in all but the first and fifth innings of the contest. After two complete innings, the Lady Trojans held a 3-2 lead over the home team and that was all the Lady Bucs were to get on the night.

“We struggled a little hitting the ball in the first inning. In the second inning, we scored three runs mainly on Miller errors and fielders’ choices,” said Lady Trojan head coach Adolfo Dominguez.

Sera Quiroga was in the circle for the Lady Trojans and picked up the win to bring her season record to 10-4. Quiroga shut out the Miller girls over the final five frames.

The Lady Trojans stand 12-8 overall and are 5-4 in district play with three games left to play.

The Lady Trojans added a single run in the third and plated five big runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach of the Miller girls at 9-2 going into the late innings.

Beeville struck for another run in the sixth and added two more in the top of the seventh to make the final, 12-2.

Quiroga helped herself with a 1-4 night at the plate with a double and two runs batted in. J.J. Hernandez stroked a triple and a home run for a perfect 2-2 on the night with two RBI’s. Outfielder Sam Olivo slapped four hits in five trips to keep the Beeville offense moving.

“We still need to play smarter. Our pitch selection needs to get better. There were times when we took/looked at strikes or took cuts at balls,” Dominguez said.

“We still have a lot of work to do with this young team. However, it feels great to get back into the win column.”

The Lady Trojans played Port Lavaca last night (Friday) in Beeville. On Tuesday evening, the Lady Trojans will travel to Rockport to meet the R-F Lady Pirates.

The JV games will begin the evening’s softball action at 5 p.m. with the varsity games set for a 7 p.m. start.
