The Beeville girls have played four scrimmage games this spring, splitting the contests. The Lady Trojans lost to Flour Bluff and Goliad but notched wins over George West and Incarnate Word Academy.
The final preseason game with IWA was on Friday night, and the Beeville girls really broke in their bats. Andrea Briseno, Amanda Gonzales and Ashley Olivarez had three hits apiece on the night. Olivarez got things going in the right direction with a first inning double that drove in three of Beeville’s 18 runs on the night.
Sophomore pitcher Rebecca De Los Santos went seven strong innings, according to head coach Jose Flores, and limited the Angels to three runs on the night. De Los Santos’ battery-mate, catcher Rebekah Moreno, handled her duties behind the plate well, throwing out four IWA base runners attempting to steal a base.
The Lady Trojans will compete in the Odem Lady Owls tournament this weekend. The girls also will participate in tournaments in Corpus Christi and Sinton before district play begins.
“We are looking to improve as we play tournaments the next three weeks,” Flores said.
The Lady Trojans also will gain some experience when the basketball season ends with three or four more upper classmen joining the squad when released from basketball.
