It was a team effort and a balanced scoring attack that led the Lady Trojans to the win. They earned a five-point lead by the end of the first period and never relinquished their advantage the rest of the way.
“We played our best game against Rockport. We were able to put together four full quarters,” said Lady Trojan head coach Greg Gonzales.
“We are just now starting to peak. We are playing our best basketball right now.”
The Lady Trojans had a 27-24 advantage at the half but added four more points to their lead over the third period to take a 45-38 margin.
The Beeville ladies outscored the Lady Pirates 14-10 down the stretch to preserve the 11-point win.
Three Beeville players made it into double figures with Cassandra Vela leading the way with 16 points. Brandy Perez was hot from the outside with 15 points. Hillary Hennig followed with 12. Tuesday night’s home game against Moody was the season finale for the Lady Trojans.
Playoff chances are still slim but the Beeville girls must have a win on Tueday against Moody and have Miller defeat Rockport that same evening.
The win at Rockport improves the Beeville girls record to 14-18 overall and they stand 4-7 in district play prior to Tuesday night’s encounter with Moody.
