The host Eagles defeated the Beeville JV during Thursday’s opening round but ran into the tough Lions later that night and lost to the Kenedy boys.
The Eagles went on to play in the third place game against Runge on Saturday and were beaten after filling in for the Beeville JV squad in the fifth place game.
The Trojan JV pulled out of the tournament because of the auto accident that claimed two fellow students’ lives on Friday night. The Trojan squad did defeat the Three Rivers Bulldogs in their second contest of the tourney on Thursday evening.
Luling dealt the host Eagle team a loss in that substitute contest for fifth on Saturday.
The Eagle bats were hot during the tourney with several players picking up a multitude of hits and RBI’s.
McKinzie Torres went 6-14 with a triple, home run and three RBI’s. James Constante also carried around a big stick. Constante went 7-12 with three doubles, two triples and five runs batted in.
Pitcher/first baseman Ryan Beck was also 7-12 with one triple and five RBI’s. A.B. Escamilla had four hits in 13 tries including a double and a triple, knocking in five runs.
James Wolfe collected four hits in six trips to the plate. Tim Gill was 5-10 with two RBI’s. Anthony Camden went 3-8 with a double for the Eagles.
Beck picked up one win on the mound for the Eagles, striking out 15 Beeville batters over six innings. Torres went 1-1 on the mound. Torres struck out 12 Kenedy Lions in five innings of work but lost the well-pitched contest.
The Eagles now stand 3-5 on the year and will compete in the Refugio tournament this weekend.
The opening round of games will have the Eagles meeting San Diego in Mathis.
