The George West JV Baseball team has been on a roll the last two weeks after starting off the season 1-4-1.

Since the start of district play the Longhorn JV team has won three straight district games bringing their record to 4-4-1 and a perfect 3-0 in district. “It really has been a team effort of these young men. They are playing as a unit and have realized that they are a pretty good ball club”, Coach Justin Dunnam said.

During the Longhorn’s winning streak they have beaten Natalia 12 – 0, Jourdanton 16 – 7, and Dilley 11 – 2. Outstanding pitching performances provided by Colton Guerrero and Derek Sanchez, and an outstanding defense behind them have helped lead the way for this young ball club to turn their season around. The bats have come alive for the Longhorns as well. After scoring a total of 7 runs in their first five games the Longhorns have scored a total 29 runs in their last 3. “It is fun to see the looks on these young men’s faces when everything started to come together for them; it was like the weight of the world was lifted of their shoulders and that just made it easier for them to play,” Dunnan continued.

The Longhorn JV team has 11 games left over the course of the month against Freer, Schulenburg, CC John Paul II, Natalia, Jourdanton, Dilley, and Marion. Their next game will be at home on April 2, against Freer in a double header which starts a 6 p.m. “We look forward to seeing you at the game,” Dunnam said in closing.
