BEEVILLE – The students at St. Mary’s Academy Charter School were a small sea of navy polos and excited faces on Tuesday, jumping to their feet and clapping as Texas State Rep. J.M. Lozano entered the cafeteria.

Rep. Lozano visited the small school in Beeville on Tuesday, Nov. 12, to speak to the students at St. Mary’s and to formally present the school with an award for “Excellence in Education.”

Dozens of tiny hands shot into the air as Lozano interacted with the students, asking them about their favorite subjects and what they want to be when they grow up.

He congratulated the students for their hard work, praised the school’s faculty for their guidance, and encouraged the students to continue to work hard to reach their goals.

“St. Mary’s is one of the best schools in Texas, and you are getting the best education,” he told the students.

Lozano said the small city of Beeville reminds him of the town where he grew up. “In a small town, everyone knows everyone, and it just feels like home,” he said.

As Lozano presented the award, he praised Mrs. Hirma Elizondo, the principal at St. Mary’s, for her hard work and dedication to her students. “Your principal is very important to this school and to making it what it is today,” he said.

“I want to present her and the students with this certificate from the State of Texas, the House of Representatives, “Excellence in Education,” because every one of you is excellent, and you will continue to do better every single year.”
