On Tuesday, Feb. 26, the Moreno Middle School bands went to a Pre-UIL competition in Victoria. Both Symphonic and Concert Bands made a rating of “Excellent” on stage.

Afterward both bands participated in Sightreading (playing new piece music for the first time). The Symphonic Band made a “Excellent” rating and the Concert Band made a “Superior” rating.

Next week, the bands will compete in the UIL Music Region 14 Concert and Sightreading contest at Victoria West High School.

“Both Mr. Jose Villarreal with the Symphonic band and Miss Lisa Alvalos with the Concert Band did an excellent job,” said band director Jaime Vela. “They have been working hard for this competition. Next week will be their real UIL competition. Last year, we didn’t bring concert group, they had many issues that kept them from coming. This program is growing. I’m proud of these kids and their directors.”
