Manuel “Popo” Perez Jr., 74, of Memphis, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, in Amarillo.

Mr. Perez was born April 1, 1938, in Yorktown to Manuel Perez and Maria (Villarreal) Perez. He attended schools in Beeville and moved to Memphis in 1960. He married Gloria Narvaez on Aug. 16, 1999, and worked for the City of Memphis until retiring after 33 years. He was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, David S. Perez, Rafael Perez and Ray S. Perez.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Perez of Memphis; five daughters, Christina (Jaime) Saenz, Priscilla (Cipriano) Ruiz and Peggy Hall, all of Memphis, Mabel Dominguez of Houston and Mary Helen Campbell of Panhandle; one son, Manuel Perez III of Corpus Christi; four grandchildren, Christopher Saenz, Gabriella Ruiz, Sabrina Saenz and Samantha Ruiz, all of Memphis; numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four brothers, Dan Tijerina of San Antonio, Ramon Perez, Ernest Perez and Geronimo Rodrigues, all of Beeville; six sisters, Consuelo Santos of Cleveland, Teresa Sanchez and Julia Vidaurre, both of San Antonio, Noemi Botello of Houston, Rosie Perez McCollum and Angie Guerrero of Beeville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held Friday, April 6, at 3:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Rudy Sanchez officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis.
