The Moreno Middle School tennis team went to Victoria last weekend and emerged with several medals.

“I am very proud of all the team and the great effort they showed,” said MMS net coach Julie Maupin.

The boys’ A double division was won by Trojans Eric Dehnert and Marcos Ulloa. MMS teammates Mason Elliott and Colton Wren placed third in the same division. Darrell Jones and Cole Nessa placed in the consolation bracket.

In the boys’ B division, Moreno’s Graham Traylor and Marcos Ganceras placed second in doubles. Matt Cuellar and Robert Reyna were in the consolation bracket for the young Trojans. Seventh-graders Paul Coronado and Tyler Stewart played against the eighth-grade division and placed sixth in the large field.

In the girls’ A division, Victoria Elizalde and Cori Moore won the doubles event. Randi Maupin and Heather McKinney placed second in the same competition for Beeville. It was a Lady Trojan sweep as Cori Sparks and Celeste Contreras captured third place and the duo of Paige McKinney and Selena Guerra finshed in fourth place. Emily Harris and teammate Claire McKinney played well together but lost in the consolation round.

In the B division of the girls’ side, Lady Trojans Maddie Rodgers and Rachel Wolfe lost to teammates Meg Dudney and Brianna Jackson who went on to capture first place in their division. Rodgers and Wolfe finished third while Beeville’s Amber Puebla and Skylar Gutierrez placed fourth.
