With the cooler months approaching a few local clubs have already begun their “Coats for Kids” drive. This year’s project is headed again by the Student Council at Moreno Middle School, under the sponsorship of Darla Perron.

This project is scheduled to run from Nov. 1 through Dec.1 so the jackets can be distributed on time to children. Sara Casas, vice president at Moreno Middle School, is heading this year’s project at her campus and is excited about collecting jackets for less fortunate children.

“Last year we helped along with Junior Service League, the Radiology Club and Mr. Flores, the owner of Bee Cleaners, with this project. We collected more than 200 jackets and Mr. Flores cleaned the jackets for free! This project could not be possible without his generosity,” she said.

Helping again this year in collecting is the Junior Service League of Beeville, which is headed by President Shambryn Huie, and Coastal Bend College Radiology Club, under the supervision of Ludie Tyran. Sara is encouraging everyone to clean out their closets and bring their coats to Bee Cleaners, Coastal Bend College, Moreno Middle School library or call the school for pick up.

Ms. Perron reminded the students that “being warm is something we all take for granted, yet we forget that right here in our little community there are children who are very, very cold and we can help keep them warm.”
