Mrs. Maria G. Reyna, 85, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, in a local nursing home.

She was born Sept. 25, 1924, in San Antonio to the late Jesus and Seferina Gutierrez Garcia. She was a housewife and retired pastor. She was a Pentecostal pastor in Edcouch, Kingsville, Chicago and Beeville, and was a convention delegate and treasurer.

Mrs. Reyna was preceded in death by a daughter, Juanita Vasquez, and two sons, Estevan and Guillermo Reyna.

Survivors include her husband, Joaquin Reyna of Beeville; two daughters, Herminia R. Benavidez of Kyle and Antonio Reyna of Rio Grande City; three sons, Domingo (Minnie) Reyna of Beeville, Roberto (Sylvia) Reyna of Denver, Colo., and Enrique (Jackie) Reyna of Fort Collins, Colo.; five brothers, Jose C. Garcia of Pawnee, Guadalupe Garcia of Midland, Antonio Garcia of Port Lavaca, Yndalecio Garcia of Lubbock and Pablo Garcia of Kenedy; five sisters, Mrs. Ascencion Rodriguez of San Antonio, Mrs. Cipriana Garcia of Mathis, Mrs. Anita Krause of Kenedy, Lucia Sanchez of Snyder and Juanita Morin of George West, 26 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at Treviño Funeral Home with Rev. Juan Cavazos officiating. Burial followed at Rancho Colorado Cemetery in Mendiola community.

Pallbearers were Gerald Reyna, Larry Benavidez, Javier Benavidez, Tommy Franklin, Nathaniel Reyna and Lawrence Vasquez.

She was an awesome lady. I met her when i was only a child. I use to go over to her house often as a child. I will never forget you.
