Cadets of the A.C. Jones High School Naval Junior ROTC unit recently celebrated their past year at their Annual Military Ball and awards night. The evening started with the awards. Cadets were recognized for their achievement in areas such as academics, military skills, conduct and community service.

The keynote speaker for the ball was the commander of the Beeville American Legion, Becky Ochoa. She spoke on the importance of continuing their education and gave the cadets some inspiring words on service, duty and citizenship. The cadets were then treated to a wonderful dinner, dessert and music.

For the rest of the evening the cadets showed their “moves” on the dance floor, and all agreed that the ball was a great event to end their year.

A special thanks to two local vendors who provided food and enabled the JROTC unit to fund the ball. The first is Anthony’s barbecue, who provided a great meal of brisket, chicken and sausage along with all the trimmings, and to cakes by me...Amy Lee, who provided the dessert in the form of a cupcake tree.

We also wish to express appreciation to Chief Hidalgo and Col. Lovely, who have given countless hours to the JROTC unit. Their time, advice and guidance have been invaluable.
