On Monday, June 23, at a regular meeting the Pettus Independent School District board of trustees selected and named Theresa Keel as the lone finalist being considered for the position of superintendent of schools for the district.

By law the board may not hire the new superintendent for at least 21 days following the public notice that was given by the board’s motion.

The meeting to hire a superintendent is scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, at 6:30 p.m.

Theresa Keel currently serves as the superintendent of schools for the Cordova School District in Cordova, Alaska.

Prior to this professional move, she has served education at multiple levels: director of curriculum and instruction in Ingram ISD; high school principal for Bandera ISD; special programs director for Sealy ISD, and as a secondary mathematics teacher in several Texas schools.

Professionally, her philosophy is “to educate every child to a level of success that allows them to pursue any future.” Parallel with the Pettus ISD mission, Keel’s philosophy will allow her to successfully engage students, employees and the community in school district activities and events.

Editor’s note: Previously, PISD officials had announced Clay Gillentine as the lone superintendent finalist; last week, in an email, he announced he had changed his mind.
