Once again the Kenedy Lions were fueled by a outstanding pitching performance by Junior left hander Dominic Cruz. Cruz had 14 strikeouts while only giving up 2 hits and three walks as the Lions shutout the Eldorado Eagles 5-0 on Thursday night in Ingram.

Offensively, the Lions managed to score five runs on 10 hits. Cruz was also a force at the plate with two hits, one stolen base, and one run scored. Javier Hernandez and Andre Martinez had two hits each and Chris Pena, Robby Gutierrez, Jacob Asebedo and RayJ Garza had one hit each.

The Lions got the scoring started in the bottom of the first when Dominic Cruz led off with a single followed by a walk to Javier Hernandez setting the stage for an RBI single by senior RayJ Garza. The Lions would score a second run on an RBI single by Robby Guttierez. The Lions would score another run in the fourth inning when Javier Hernandez hit an RBI single to left putting the Lions up 3-0. Kenedy scored their last two runs of the night in the fifth inning when Jacob Asebedo scored on a wild pitch and Andre Martinez scored on a bloop single to right by right fielder Chris Pena.

The win in the area round advances the Lions to face the Falls City Beavers in a one-game series for the regional quarterfinal baseball playoff.

The game is set for Friday, May 16 at Southside High School in San Antonio. Game time is 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults.
