R.A. Hall Elementary School fourth-grader Julisa Castillo has been named junior division champion for the 2010 National Science Fair.
Her project, “Disproving Global Warming,” beat more than 50,000 other projects submitted by students from all over the U.S.
Julisa originally entered her project in her school science fair before sending it to the National Science Foundation (NSF) to be judged at the national level.
The NSF panel of judges included former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, 14 recipients of the President’s National Medal of Science, and four former astronauts.
“Before she sent it off, she just had to add more details, citations for her research, and the amount of hours she spent working on it,” said Julisa’s father, J.R. Castillo.
In addition to a plaque, trophy and medal, Julisa has won an all-expenses-paid trip to Space Camp at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala., which she plans to attend this summer.

I, for one, question the whole global warming thing. I agree with parts, but there is definitely a lot of research that discredit's it. This whole thing lies nowhere but in the house in which Castillo resides.
i would like to say all of you guys think waaaay to much; obviously none of yall are from beeville maybe you should mind yalls own....
....just saying.. find something else to do than sit behind a computer and comment back and forth maybe add eachother on facebook? idk pretty weird if you ask me.
I hope that Mr. Castillo contacts a lawyer. I'm sure Morano has deep enough pockets and should be pretty easy to trace this all back to him.
I'm sure there are plenty of lawyers that would take this case pro bono.
"Darmster definitely has a horse in this race. What could he be after?"
LOL :)
My horse's name is Old Betsy, and she's never failed me.

Thanks for the responses!
"and why is the school the final authority anyhow?"
Who said the school was the "final authority"?
"they could be victims just as much as Julissa (although not necessarily her dad)"
Yes, they could. Now, what convincing evidence exists to support this concern?
Warm Regards,
Doug
i've contacted the school and the teacher via email and gotten no response
and why is the school the final authority anyhow?
they could be victims just as much as Julissa (although not necessarily her dad)
"I suspect climate alarmists are behind it, and that they have stooped to a new low in their attempts to discredit anyone daring to challenge the astonishing flood of global warming propaganda, even a talented young schoolgirl."
Climatelessons I think that someone like yourself - who has an agenda in getting people to question the science of global warming out there - is far more likely to be behind this. (If fact, the scan of the letter the young lady recieved was addressed from the "Directorate for Education" - being that you are from the U.K. - you may not be aware that we would not use that as a title here in the U.S.A - that sounds very much like it came from the U.K.)
If it was you, thank you for returning to the scene of the crime and I hope you are exposed.
Eitherway - whoever did this should be strung up.
Here's my original query:
"Has anyone questioning the veracity of the posted story actually contacted the school at 361-362-6060?"
Here's a response to my query:
"Darmster is beginning to sound like one of Hellfire's alternate identities.
If you're so hot to get the school's response to this article, you should call them yourself. If you already have called them and received some bombshell information you should just post it here instead of encouraging people to distract school staff from their jobs."
What does this person's opinion of who or what my messages sound like have anything to do with the query? By what process of reasoning did this person come to the conclusion that I am "hot" to get a response from a school? And how do the statements relate to the query? Only the person making the statements knows.
Regarding me sharing information instead of encouraging distraction:
It is questionable what I say is true. It is empowering and priceless the truth you find.
Again, has anyone questioning the veracity of the posted story actually contacted the school at 361-362-6060?
Warm Regards,
Doug
PS
The school staff is already prepared for phone calls regarding this article, because the staff is aware of the article's publication. Your phone calls to them are expected and are no more a distraction than you scratching an itch on your head.
I hope it is determined who exploited this young lady and it is made public and I also hope there is criminal investigation.
This really is sickening. I'm certain the promise of the Space Camp trip was bogus as well. These people should be shot.
Here's my original query:
"Anyone call the school yet at 361-362-6060? Simple to do."
Here's a response to my query:
"What is the point of bothering school staff? There's nothing linking them to the possible hoax."
So, here is an individual who has come to the conclusion that contacting those who may have some knowledge about the event would be of no value to helping determine if the story is a hoax.
It is possible to come so such conclusion, if and only if the folks I'm suggesting ought to be contacted had no relationship whatsoever to those involved in the event in question.
However, we know that the father and daughter had a relationship with the school. The relationship was that the school taught the daughter a fourth grade education. Therefore, it is perfectly reasonable to assume that the staff would be able to confirm or deny the story in question simply because someone at the school had contact with the daughter.
Therefore, for an individual to reach the conclusion that conducting a phone call to said staff would be of no value is completely illogical and unreasonable.
So, again, the question is: has anyone questioning the veracity of the posted story actually contacted the school at 361-362-6060?
Warm Regards,
Doug

Julisa - don't be discouraged.
But a lesson for everybody else - it is SO easy to create a story and have it spread in this day and age, with little fact checking or investigation. Don't believe everything you read, just because you want it to be true.
As Winston Churchill once said, "A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on."
