He was a member of the Rodd Field Spanish Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, having been baptized on August 1, 1975. His construction skills were put to great use in building Kingdom Halls in Corpus Christi and the South Texas area. He was employed by Heldenfels Brothers from whom he retired in 1992 as a Project Superintendent after more than 40 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Rangel of Ben Bolts; his brother, Ruben Chapa and sister, Lydia Chapa Duken, both of San Antonio.
Survivors include his sons, Rene (Mary Frances) Chapa, Jr. of Corpus Christi and Robert L. ( Sydney) Chapa of McDade; brothers, Roy (Rachel) Chapa of San Antonio; Romeo Chapa of Houston; Roel (Emma) Chapa of George West; Lucio (Margaret) Chapa, III of Ottumwa, Iowa; sisters, Ludi Chapa (Frank) Hernandez of San Antonio; Lucy Chapa (Daniel) Castillo of Harlingen; Lucille Chapa (Salvador) Yzaguirre of Kyle; five grandchildren and nephews and nieces.
The viewing was held on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from 5 to 9 p.m. with a talk at 7 p.m.
The memorial service was on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Services were under the direction of Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Corpus Christi.
