The Rialto Children’s Theater Workshop began on Monday, July 19, at 9 a.m. at 305 N. Washington St. (formerly Gilbert’s Jewelry) in downtown Beeville.

Alex Garza, former drama instructor at Coastal Bend College and current drama instructor at Dilly High School in Dilly, is the workshop teacher. He is being assisted by Thomas Brewer, a drama and music student at Coastal Bend College. The week-long workshop will end at noon on Saturday, July 24, at the conclusion of the play performance by the workshop students.

The play, “It All Began with a Little Blue Spot on His Forehead,” is an original play written by Garza. Several years ago, the play was selected by the Texas Theatre Education Association and performed at the annual convention.

Students enrolled in the workshop auditioned on Monday and have been selected to play the following roles: Sydnie Maguire, Polly/Dr. Peel; Chelsi Johnson, Mom; Alex Fernandez, Dad/Christopher; Asa Neal Alien 1; Valerie Velasco, Alien 2; Raeanna Kempf, Alien 3; Gia Vela, Alien 4; Loren Flores, Grandma. Two roles that require older actors will be played by Thomas Brewer and Alex Garza. Thomas Brewer will play Trevor and Alex Garza will play Dr. Short.

The play will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 24, at 305 N. Washington St. The public is invited to attend this free performance.

The Rialto Theater Children’s Workshop is partially funded by the Joe Barnhart Foundation.
