Baby it’s cold outside, and what a wonderful way to bring in the first full work week of the new year. Happy New Year everyone and stay warm! Lots of exciting things are happening in Runge right now. First, please join us for the first monthly meeting of the Runge Chamber of Commerce and Community Projects, scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Runge Vet Clinic on Hwy 81. Join us and be a part of the planning for the new year.

Another first this week; Runge is hosting the first monthly “Karnes County 2nd Friday Breakfast” of 2014. Scheduled for Friday, Jan. 10, sponsored by Runge ISD Superintendent Janice Sykora, to be held at the Runge School Library, off Reiffert Road. If you have never been to Runge ISD, you can reach the library by going Hwy 72 East, just two blocks past PICO’s (Hwy 81), turn left onto Reiffert. You’ll see the signs to the stadium telling your to turn. Go north on Reifert until it dead ends, turn right and park in the area next to the tennis courts and football stadium. There will be lots of parking, and the library entrance is right there, we won’t let you miss it. We are looking forward to seeing everyone there. Please join us and make “Karnes County 2nd Friday Breakfast” a priority in 2014. You’ll meet the nicest people in Karnes County and, find out what’s happening around the county.

On the first Tuesday of February, get ready to sharpen your business skills and learn more about non-profit organizations, aka 501(c)3’s. The Runge Chamber is pleased to be bringing a representative who spent years in the Texas Comptroller’s office to Karnes County. Now retired, Janet Spies shares her expertise with non-profits and business teaching best business practices and tax laws to communities and business for their success. Everyone is invited, especially non-profit board members. Let your board know you are interested in attending and put it on your calendar. Let’s make 2014 the best ever.

PICO’s is starting the new year off right with a new face lift. Monday they had new signs installed. Come on by this week and check them out, along with their fantastic employees.
