San Juanita “Janie” Martinez Godines, 57, of Alice, formerly of Skidmore, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013.

Mrs. Godines was born Nov. 5, 1955, in Hockley County to Petra (Garcia) and Domingo Martinez Sr. She married Arturo Godines on Oct. 25, 1980, in Skidmore. She was a 1976 graduate of Skidmore-Tynan High School, was a Catholic and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her father, four brothers and one sister.

Survivors include her mother, Petra Martinez of Skidmore; her husband, Arturo Godines of Alice; children, Veronica Godines of Corpus Christi, Bernardo Jesus “B.J.” (Bonnie) Godines of Aransas Pass and Albert Luis Godines of Alice; a brother, Domingo (Bertha) Martinez Jr. of Skidmore; a sister, Josefina Martinez of McAllen; and two grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at Angelus Funeral Home in Beeville. A rosary was recited there that evening at 7 o’clock.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Skidmore.

Pallbearers were Bernardo Jesus Godines, Alberto Luis Godines, Steve Garcia, Jacob Martinez, Domingo Martinez III and Gabriel Martinez.
