The visiting Port Lavaca Sandies did just that to the Lady Trojan varsity on Tuesday night as they dealt the home team a 4-0 loss.
The teams were locked in a scoreless duel through the first three innings. In the top of the fourth, the Sandies took advantage of a couple of Beeville errors and extra base hits to put four runs on the scoreboard. That was all they needed as the final went into the books at 4-0.
The Lady Trojans had just a couple of scoring opportunities, but the Calhoun defense turned in a couple of fine defensive plays to squelch any rally thoughts the Beeville girls might be thinking.
“Offensively, we were unable to really get the bats going, and we couldn’t execute when we needed to. We hit the ball, just couldn’t find the holes,” said head coach Edward Bocanegra.
Both Courtney Perez and Theresa Amador pitched well for the Lady Trojans, according to Bocanegra. The three hits for the team went to Anyssa Barbosa, Lynn Puente and Brandy Garcia.
The Lady Trojans were in Portland on Friday night to tangle with the G-P Ladycats to close out the first round of district play. The Lady Trojans sport a 1-3 district record heading into Friday’s match-up with G-P.
Next week will have the Beeville girls making the trip to Victoria on Tuesday and Friday. The West Warriors will host the ladies on Tuesday while the East Titans will be Friday’s foe.
