The Port Lavaca Calhoun Sandies were in Beeville on Tuesday night and the varsity visitors used some good pitching and some even better hitting to blow out the home team, 17-0, in three innings.

“Last night’s game was a rough one. Port Lavaca was a good hitting ball team,” said Lady Trojan head coach Edward Bocanegra.

The Sandies struck early and often with the big blow, a grand slam home run that helped put the game way out of reach.

The visitors picked up five runs in the first and another three crossed the plate in the second inning.

An nine-run explosion in the top of the third put the game away. By the end of three innings, the Sandies held a 17-run lead and the game was called on a 15-run rule after three innings.

“It’s always tough when you lose a ball game like that, but you have to move on and continue to practice and get ready for the next game. It’s one ball game and we have a lot of ball games left,” said Bocanegra.

Third baseman Courtney Perez had the only hit against the Port Lavaca hurler on the night.

“We have confidence in the girls and look forward to some fun and exciting games,” the coach said.

The Lady Trojans stand 1-3 in district play and will travel to Rockport on Friday to meet the Lady Pirates. The JV game will get things started at 5 :30 p.m. with the varsity contest following at approximately 7 p.m.
