BEEVILLE – The Port Lavaca Sandies JV basketball team used a strong first half to sprint by the Lady Trojan JV hoops’ squad on Friday night, 66-30.

The Beeville girls played well over the first quarter, trailing by just five, 17-12. But a dismal second period began their fall. The Sandies poured in 23 points over the second seven minutes while holding the home team to four points.

The visitors led 40-16 as the teams retired to the locker rooms for the halftime break. The Trojan offense did not wake up for the third period as the Beeville girls added only two points to their total. The Sandies hit for 14 to lead comfortably, 54-18, entering the fourth quarter.

The two teams traded baskets over the final minutes, with both teams netting 12 tallies as the Sandies captured the easy victory.

Alyssa Silva finished with nine points to lead the Lady Trojans in scoring. Tiffany Vargas followed with seven markers. Samantha Salazar and Michaela Fernandez each contributed four. Amber Garcia and Valerie Perez each had two. Deziree Mendez made one point.

The Lady Trojans were in Calallen on Tuesday night and will host the Tuloso-Midway Cherokees on Friday night.
