A 71-year-old man hospitalized three men when his 18-wheeler semi truck with a flatbed trailer collided with a half-ton Dodge pickup in the northbound lane of Highway 281 next to the Love’s truck near Three Rivers on July 10 at 3:42 p.m.

Jimmie Cordova of Sinton failed to yield to oncoming traffic while turning out of the southbound lane to cross the northbound lane according to DPS Corporal Raul Garcia.

DPS Trooper Gabriel Llanas said Cordova said he didn’t see the red truck approaching when he pulled out.

The truck’s driver, Alvaro Gonzales, and passengers Abraham Gutierrez, and Horacio Garza, 37, are all from Roma and were heading to work in the oil field according to DPS. Two of the men were taken to the South Texas Regional Medical Center in Jourdanton by Acadian EMS, and the third was driven separately by his boss according to Garcia.

Three Rivers Fire Department, Live Oak County Sheriff’s Department and Three Rivers Police Department also responded.

Traffic was blocked for about an hour and diverted through the Love’s truck strop while TRFD cleaned up the oil, gas and engine fluids.
