Firemen, police officers and city employees raced to the 200 block of East Catherine Street just after 9:30 a.m. Monday after a city tractor mowing the grass on the south side of the street snagged a guy wire and sent a utility pole crashing onto the roof of the tractor. The driver told a supervisor that he was watching behind the tractor when a front wheel snagged the guy wire. The driver said he heard electricity popping behind him when the pole crashed onto the tractor. The man jumped free and ran in the opposite direction from where the sparks were flying. No one was injured and AEP personnel were on the scene in minutes.
