On the road again with the South Texas Trail Riders, of Corpus Christi for their 55th Annual Trail Ride to the 65th Annual San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. This year the trail ride will kick-off Thursday, Jan. 30 at Edcot Gin, in Edroy. Registration will start at 2 p.m. at 9 p.m., so, come on out and sign up.
The 2014 Trail Ride is dedicated to the loving memory of those trail riders that passed away: Doug Grover of Sandia, Past President, Advisory Board Director; Kasper “Kapp” Mutz, of Hobson, trail rider for many years; Joe Ysasi trail rider for many years; Gary Dedman from Gillett, wagoneer; and Ray Garza, trail ride for years.
The 2013-2014 South Texas Trail Ride Queen is Sheridan Wilson from Robstown, Sweetheart is Kimberly Atchley from Orange Grove and Mascot is Corina Romike of Orange Grove. Officers this year are: President of the South Texas Trail Ride, Vicki Gannaway; 1st Vice President, Rick Barber; 2nd Vice President, Gerald Hunt; Recording Secretary, Cheryl Darden; Corresponding Secretary, Liz Vesely; Treasurer, June Lozano; Directors: Arlis Young, Susan Arnold, Eli Bailey, Robert “Robbie” Busselman, Maxine Delano, Mike Dunn, Jim Morgan, Christina Mutz, Katie Reed, Leonard Saenz, and Karl Wiggins; Advisory Board Directors: George Camp, Pumpkin Culpepper, Tinker Dunn, Ray Garcia, June Lozano, Jimmie Pollard, Terry Reichel, Sandra Robinson, and Arlis Young.
Trail Boss, Arlis Young; Asst. Trail Bosses, Michael Dunn and Ray Garcia; Honorary Trail Bosses, George Camp and Terry Reichel; Wagon Boss, Virgil W. Culpepper; Captain of the Scouts, Bill Siddon, Trail Marshal, Willie Moses, Deputy Marshal and Robert Cavazos will be taking out the trail ride on the road.
The 55th Annual trail ride will be riding out on Friday, Jan. 31 from Edcot Gin in Edroy and travel the back roads to the Tynan Recreation Center with a dance with Bobby Marquez with a cover charge at the door. So if you like dance come out and have good time with us.
Saturday, Feb. 1, we ride out at 8 a.m., the trail will say goodbye to Tynan and hello to Skidmore and Beeville. The lunch is at the Skidmore Fire Dept. and this stop will be a panoramic group picture taken of the trail ride for the 55th Annual year. The trail will be arriving at 4:15 p.m. at the Beeville Coliseum Campsite. This year there will be a “Bull Bash” of 30 head of bulls vs. Texas Cowboys, produced by K-3 Bucking Bulls. The Bulls Bash gates open at 6 p.m. at the Bee County Coliseum Area at 214 FM 351, Beeville. There will be a cover charge at the gate. Sunday, Feb. 2, leave Beeville at 8 a.m. and travel to Pettus by the way of the back roads of Bee County. On Sunday night is the Big Super Bowl game.
Monday, Feb. 3, leave Pettus at 8 a.m. and traveling the back roads to the Karnes County Show Barn midway Kenedy – Karnes City. Monday night we have game night for the kids and adults and whole South Texas Trail Ride Raffle.
Fat Tuesday, Feb. 4, the trail ride will ride out of Karnes County Show Barn at 9 a.m. and travel to the City of Karnes City Maintenance Barn for lunch. The trail will be coming into City of Falls City at 4 p.m. if traffic is OK. The Falls City Chamber of Commerce will be have big barbecue supper for all the trail ride and town folks. Supper will be serving from 6 – 7:30 p.m. and dance starts at 7:30 p.m. with the music of “Cactus County”, there will be a cover charge at the door for the dance. The public is invite to the dance.
Thank you Karnes County folks for the great meals and wonderful hospitality, we would like to thank the Friends of Karnes City for the great desserts with our lunch and good sausage lunch.
Wednesday, Feb. 5, the trail will be leaving Falls City at 8 a.m. on the way to the Poth VFW Hall for lunch provided by the Poth Chamber of Commerce. The trail rides loves to see the school kids of the Poth ISD and get their letters and have their picture taken with the kids. The ride will arrive at the Wilson County Show Barn for a great meal cooked by the “Craig Mutz , Rick Vocur and the Floresville Boys”. At 8 p.m. is the dance with Bobby Marquez, this dance is open to the public. So come out joy the fun. We would like to thank all the great folks of Wilson County for their hospitality.
Thursday, Feb. 6, leaving at 8 a.m. from the Wilson County Show Barn and having lunch at the E-Z Stop at U.S. Hwy 181 and FM 775, the trail ride will arrive at the Bexar County Sheriff’s Posse Arena at 4 p.m. Supper will be served from 6 – 7:30 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. is the Annual STTR Awards Ceremony for 2014.
Friday, Feb. 7, leaving at 8 a.m. from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Posse Arena and having lunch at the Wal-Mart parking lot at I-410 East and arrive at the Bexar County Junior Livestock Show Grounds and at 5 p.m. is the end of the trail Party and Dance for all the trail riders and introduction of all the trail bosses and queens from the other rides.
So mark your calendar and come on out and see the queen, mascot, sweetheart, wagons, buggies, and riders.
