The Texas Historical Commission has designated the facility as a Historic Texas Cemetery. The designation is considered an important step in assuring the preservation of the grounds.
The special designation is reserved for cemeteries that are at least 50 years old and documented through the Historic Texas Cemeteries process.
The Most Rev. William Mulvey, S.T.L, D.D, and eighth bishop of Corpus Christi, will be the main speaker.
Following the commemoration, a reception will be held at the First National Bank, 1400 E. Houston St.
Cemeteries hold valuable historical information, and they are often the last reminders of early settlements, historical events, religious beliefs, lifestyles and genealogy of communities, said Elizabeth Galloway.
