The story of the widow’s offering (Mark 12:41-44) was at one time referred to as the story of the “widow’s mite”. If it were recorded, what might the back story of that widow have been? What might she have been thinking and feeling? What might have motivated her to action? Desperation? Hope? Trust? Such speculation formed the basis of the message at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Karnes City.

So what might this mean for us? Who are the widows, the nameless faceless ones that we pass by every day without a second thought? What might it look like for us to place ourselves, wholly and totally in God’s care? What might our world become if we confessed, “What might have been, what might still be is not in our control. In the might of God’s awesome promises is our might, our strength, our life. With all our might we surrender to God. With all our might we give our all to God. With all our might we hope in God’s future, in God’s vision of what still might be and who we still might become”?
