The Port Lavaca Sandies took the measure of the Lady Trojan sub-varsity volleyball teams on Tuesday with two wins in straight sets.

The freshman match had the Sandies out-hitting the Beeville girls for a straight set win at 25-12 and 25-16 in the best of three match.

The visitors got a big lead in set one at 16-3 and then held on as the Lady Trojans tried to get back into the contest. The Beeville girls played the Sandies even over the final 18 points.

Set two was a little tighter with the Lady Trojans capturing 16 points in the contest. It still was a little short as the Sandies earned the 25-16 win for a 2-0 sweep.

“The girls are improving. We got better sets and hitting tonight along with some very good passing,” said freshman coach Amanda Escobedo.

Eddika Ortega set well, according to the coaches, and Lynnzey Garcia, Olivia Ramon, Cheyenne DelBosque and the rest of the team all showed improvement.

The JV match had the taller and hard-hitting Sandies capture the first well-played set, 25-17. The second set for the win was a more dominating win at 25-13 for the visitors.

The Beeville defense got good digs from Brianna Jackson, Celeste Contreras, Krystall Cuellar, Bethany San Miguel, Amanda Gonzales and others. The Lady Trojan offense was led by the net play of Emma Downing, Jackson and Lindsey Roberson.

The Lady Trojans played Victoria East on Friday night and will then host Gregory-Portland on Tuesday night.
