TULOSO_MIDWAY – It was close, but a two-run rally late propelled the host Warriors to a 3-1 victory over the Trojan varsity baseball boys.

“The players played with emotion, something we have been lacking lately. Even though we came out on the short end again, we played the game with a greater sense of pride,” said Trojan head coach Tom Carrera.

“Seems our team is starting to finally come together and in a sense this is coming from our team is finally all together.”

T-M scored a single run in the bottom of the first to grab an early 1-0 lead. The scoreboard remained that way through the next five innings. Beeville tied it in the top of the sixth as Joe Rey Garza crossed home plate thanks to a RBI hit from Daniel Amador.

The score was knotted at 1-1 as both pitchers controlled the opposition’s bats for the most part.

The Warriors scratched for two runs in the bottom of the sixth off hurler Cameron Kremers and the Beeville defense to regain the lead. It was 3-1 with the Trojans having just one last chance to tie or go ahead in the seventh.

T-M pitcher Mason Hellums was up to the task though, and did not allow the Beeville boys to score in their final at bats to secure the 3-1 hard-fought victory. Hellums struck out 13 Beeville batters while allowing seven base hits.

Kremers went the distance for the Trojans, allowing 10 hits over six innings and struck out nine T-M batters. Kremers allowed just one earned run in the loss.

Marcus Gomez and Clay Blackwell picked up two hits apiece in the game. Garza, Kremers and Amador collected Beeville’s other three hits.

With his entire team now devoted to baseball as basketball and soccer are no over, coach Carrera finally has a full squad of athletes for baseball.

“Our best game is still yet to come,” said Carrera.

The Beeville varsity travels to G-P on Thursday night and then will host Victoria West at 7 p.m. Saturday at Joe Hunter Field.
