"A request has been made for the Rangers to do an investigation, but no case has been initiated as of yet," DPS Sgt. Jason Reyes told the Advance-Guard on Friday.
Reyes said he could not disclose who filed the request.
District Attorney Michael Sheppard confirmed Friday afternoon that he was the one who made the request for the investigation.
"Whatever the end result of an investigation, the public needs to know it is being looked into and taken seriously," Sheppard wrote. "The Rangers are the finest law enforcement agency in the state. They have no local agenda and they answer to no one on a local level, so I believe their involvement is critical to getting to the bottom of things."
About 3:30 p.m., Sheppard said that the Texas Rangers agreed to investigate the allegations.
