Thank you for all the good coverage you and your staff have given the Refugio High School Bobcat team over the years.
I have really enjoyed the many articles and depiction of the Bobcat’s winning ways and tradition.
Congratulations to the 2013 Refugio Bobcat football team, their coaches, parents and fans for still another great winning season.
I was unable to attend many of the games but did read the newspaper accounts, listen to some of the games on the radio and watched the state championship game on the television.
What Coach Herring and his staff have accomplished with the football program since his arrival and especially after his program took root with the players has been tremendous.
In the past four football seasons, Travis Quintanilla and his teammates have played in the semi-finals, quarter-finals and two Class 2A Division II State Football Championships, winning the state championship in 2011.
Along the way, many players lettered and collectively won more games, more individual honors and more hardware than any teams who played during a four-year period.
Some of their honors included being named to the All State-State team, named as the offensive or defensive player (MVP) of the game, All-South Texas offensive player of the year, All-American player of the year by the Corpus Christi Caller-Times and various cham-pionship trophies, medals and state championship rings.
Then there were the individual state records in most passing yards, most touch downs in a single game and most point-after touch downs.
The records established in the annals of Refugio High School football history by Travis and his teammates during the period of 2010-2013 are unprecedented.
These ’Cats were good.
The winning record as set by these players is clearly a new high standard that will challenge the Bobcats in coming years.
Tradition tells me that the Bobcats will face the challenge with pride and determination as our players and champions have done in the past.
To the players and coaches, thank you for your hard work, sacrifice, accomplishments and exciting football games.
Coach Herring, congratulations on your coaching awards and best wishes to those Bobcats who earned football scholarships as they pursue their college football endeavors.
Finally, to those young and upcoming Bobcats, listen to your coaches, work hard, follow your football dreams and the examples set forth by your Bobcat heroes who won so many games during the past four football seasons.
