We would like to thank Ann and Mike Showalter for organizing and leading the candidates’ forum held Tuesday night in Mineral. They contacted the candidates, planned questions and arranged for and set up the facility. All their time and energy contributed to a very informative, enjoyable session for those who attended.
Also the candidates are to be commended for their response to the invitation and the time and effort that they put forth in participating. Their attendance and their comments allowed the citizens to get to know each of them better through their answers and short speeches about their experience and desire to serve Bee County. Even officials running unopposed attended and introduced themselves. Thank you to all of them.
And lastly, we want to thank the citizens who attended. They asked questions about candidates’ views and the candidates’ future commitments to serving Bee County, be it as a state representative, district judge, county attorney or law enforcement official. It was democracy at its best: people with varied views, listening to candidates’ views and hopefully making informed decisions about casting their votes in November. There was standing room only. Good for them! As newcomers to Mineral, we felt very fortunate in being provided this forum so that we might better cast our votes in the upcoming election.
Once again, all of this would not have been possible without the work and time Mike and Ann Showalter spent on preparation and planning, and they deserve to be thanked and recognized for their service to the community.
