BEEVILLE – The Lady Titans from Victoria scored five late runs to overcome the Lady Trojan varsity softball girls on Friday night, 9-4.

Victoria scored three runs in the top of the first, but Lady Trojan hurler Theresa Amador then shut down the East offense for the next few innings. The Titans did get one run in the third, but the Beeville girls pushed across four runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 4-4.

The fifth and sixth were the problem innings for the Lady Trojans. Three East runners crossed the plate in the fifth and then two more scampered home in the sixth to put the game in the win column for the visitors. The Lady Trojans failed to answer in the late innings, but they did pound out 13 hits in the contest. Five Beeville errors helped the Titan cause while the visitors committed just one error on the night.

Amador pitched all seven innings for the Lady Trojans, giving up 12 hits and allowing just three earned runs.

“Theresa Amador pitched good enough to win against East. We need to play solid on defense for seven innings, and I feel we can beat anyone in the district,” said Lady Trojan head coach Jose Flores.

Lynn Puente, Amanda Gonzales, Andrea Briseno and Alyssa Bates each had two hits in the game for the Lady Trojans. Amador, Rebecca De Los Santos, Taylor Castillo, Eddika Ortega and Rebekah Mendoza all had base hits. Castillo, Ortega, Briseno and Bates were credited with RBIs in the game.

“We are close to becoming a good team. Our goal has not changed with the 0-3 start,” said Flores.

“We think we are a playoff team, and we expect to win at Port Lavaca on Tuesday night.”
