The Lady Trojans defeated Highlands by a score of 32-6. The girls started off in the 110-pound division with all-state wrestler Danielle Perez winning by pin against R. Reina. At 119 pounds, Briana Gobel also won by pin in the first period against H. Hammond. Rosa Salazar made it three pins in a row at 128 pounds with a second period pin fall win over I. Curren.
“The girls did a great job against Highlands,” said coach Amanda Adame.
At 138 pounds, Amanda Puga, and 165-pound Christina Alcorta also helped the team getting wins by forfeit. The only points that were lost was a forfeit to their 102 D. Rendon. Lady Trojan Perez scrimmaged Rendon at the end of the matches, winning by pin in the second period.
The Trojans also captured a win against the Highland Owls 36-23. The Trojans gave up 12 points to forfeits in the 120 and 126 weight classes. At 132 pounds, Tristan Longoria won his match by pin in the first period against A. Cepeda. Seth Hodges, at 145 pounds, lost by points to J. Pena. Seth Aguirre, at 152 pounds, lost by a pin fall to J. Mengacat. At 160 pounds, Nathaniel Barris won by pin in the first period against O. Camacho.
Trojan Jeremy Ramirez, at 170 pounds, captured a second period pin over his Owl opponent, D. Camacho. Ernest Gomez (182 pounds) and Valente Garza (195 pounds) both won by forfeit, giving their team 12 more points. In the 285-pound division, John Ross Carabajal gained a pin fall win in the first period against J. Diaz.
At the Ray Tournament on Dec. 21, the Lady Trojans did really well. Two Lady Trojans captured first place medals for the Beeville squad. Briana Gobel won four matches in a row to take first in the tournament at 119 weight class. Danielle Perez also worked to win first place in the 110 weight class.
This Friday and Saturday the Trojans will travel to Austin to participate in the Austin Centex Invitational.
