BEEVILLE – The Trojan varsity soccer team opened its home schedule on Tuesday night against the visiting Miller Buccaneers.

Miller struck first with a goal early in the first half to grab a 1-0 lead. The Bucs committed a handball violation in the box, and the Trojans were awarded a penalty kick. Beeville’s Ricardo Vasquez made good on the kick, and the Trojans tied things up at 1-1.

The Bucs took advantage of a defensive miscue a little later in the first half to regain the lead, and the match went into the halftime break with the Bucs up 2-1.

A second half free kick from Trojan Chase Ellerbee was not handled cleanly by the Buc keeper. Beeville’s Josue Sanchez kicked the rebound into the net from in front of the goal for Beeville’s second goal. The teams were back even at 2-2.

In the waning minutes of the match, the visitors scored one final goal to edge the Trojans 3-2.

The Trojans tried to rally for another tying goal but time was against them, and the match ended with the visitors capturing the win.

The Trojans are competing this weekend in the Victoria ISD tournament.
