At about 5:20 p.m., a 2006 Honda Civic, carrying the deceased, were traveling northbound when a southbound Titan pickup veered into the northbound lanes and crashed into the Honda.
“The Honda took evasive action but was unable to avoid a head-on collision,” said Texas Department of Public Safety Cpl. Charlie Ramirez.
“All in the Honda were killed,” he added.
The Titan pickup had five people in it, including the passengers. All were transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi.
Those who died in the accident were Rosalinda Albarado, 26, of Kyle; Becelia Gutierrez, 27, of Austin; Karly Rose Chavez, 7, of Kyle; and Riyan Vallejo, 4, of Austin.
David Morales Clark Jr. 37, of Hutto, was the driver of the Titan. Four others in the pickup were from Hutto and Bryan.
The speed limit on state Highway 35 is 75 mph.
Ramierez said all were wearing their seat belts.
“They are still investigating why that person went into the other lane,” Ramirez said.
He said traffic was tied up for a good while.
“I left around 8:30-9 p.m., and they were just getting it up and ready to reopen,” he said.
