Matthew 4:18-20 “ As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, And Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come follow me,” Jesus said “and I will make you fishers of men” At once they left their nets and followed him.

“Answering the Call” by Brady Braun

Last year Mrs. Cam started talking to the youth group about our second mission trip. I was immediately flashed back to all the great times that I had and memories I had made.

My excitement was short lived though. She announced that we would be going all the way to South Dakota. Thoughts ran through my mind, I always get homesick and have never been near that far from home, and to top it all off we would be driving there. Now, don’t get me wrong I love my youth group but cooped up that long in a car with anyone will push me to my limits. The date was not final but I had already heard all I needed to, to not go. Mrs. Cam told me to pray about it, so I prayed that God would make Mrs. Cam change her mind. When I realized that, that was not going to happen I prayed that God would help me to make the right decision. Later on in the year, Mrs. Cam once again called a meeting to set the date. We would be leaving July 2nd and coming back on the 12th. Once this was announced that was the last straw. I was definitely not giving up 10 days of my summer especially when it included my birthday & July 4th. I told Mrs. Cam I was not going.

It’s funny how God works though because as soon as I did I got a churning stomach. On the days leading up to, the great voyage I kept on feeling that feeling every time I thought or heard about the trip. I knew it was, but kept ignoring it. Mrs. Cam called the youth group out to Hogg Plum in order to talk about fundraising. For some reason I went out. When I heard Mrs. Cam talk about the great donations we were receiving and how our church was pulling, together to sponsor our trip I knew I could not ignore it any longer and had to answer God’s calling.

I went on the trip and had a great time making tons of memories and bonding with our youth group. I still thank God for not giving up on calling me to go fishing on the youth trip.

Prayer: God thank you for being persistent and please help me to listen and find time for you even if it is not convient foe me.
