The Warrior Weekend personnel invites all Vietnam/Vietnam Era veterans and Gold Star families who lost loved ones in the Vietnam War to participate in the parade and/or attend the luncheon after the parade. They would like to give the Vietnam veterans and Gold Star families the honor of your presence at something that should have happened a long time ago.
Vietnam veterans answered the country’s call, served with honor and courage, but did not received the welcome home they so truly deserved. So mark your calendars for this important event.

A luncheon will be served after the parade at the Victoria Community Center, at 2905 E. North Street, Victoria. In other veterans’ matters, the House of Representatives has passed H.R. 4114, which is the Veterans Compensation Cost of Living Adjustment Act of 2012.
If the bill is passed into law, the annual cost of living rate for veterans would be increased, effective Dec. 1, 2012. It is expected this year’s COLA will be around 1.9 percent.
The Refugio County VFW Post 6290 will meet on Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall. All members are encourage to attend. Important issues and projects will be discussed in regard to the upcoming holidays.
VFW bingo started up again and we would like to see many people attend the bingo games every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the post. The Marine Corps League will have their monthly meeting on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall.
We like to encourage all Marines in the area to attend the meeting. Also, on Monday, Sept. 17, through Sept. 21, I will attend the 2012 Fall Veteran Service Officer Conference in Dallas. I will still be able to receive your calls and try to assist everyone on veteran matters, but I will not be in the office during that time.
