The Warriors were held scoreless over the fourth quarter, and the Trojans finally got into the end zone on a Steven Garcia run of 21 yards, but it was way too little and too late. The final was a 34-10 drubbing of the Trojans by the once beaten Warriors.
Victoria West improves to 1-0 in district and 4-1 on the season, while the Trojans are going in the opposite direction at 0-2 in district play and 2-4 overall.
“Friday night, we didn’t have a lot of things go our way. We made too many mistakes and didn’t make plays when we needed to,” said Trojan head coach Troy Moses.
“It seemed like every time we would start to get some momentum something would happen to take it away. We just couldn’t get anything going.”
The Warriors broke open a tight contest with two touchdowns in the second and third quarters to go along with a first quarter TD. The Trojan offense moved the ball at times, but on their second possession of the game, a fumbled snap turned the ball over to the Warriors at Victoria’s 34-yard line.
The Trojan defense forced a West punt after the Warriors came up short on three plays. Beeville tried again to answer, but stalled out at the 11-yard line and had to settle for a 29-yard field goal from Marcos Ulloa. That made it a 6-3 ball game early in the second period.
The Warriors then exploded for 28 unanswered points to pull away from the Beeville boys.
With time running down in the final stanza, the Trojans picked up a 21-yard touchdown with Steven Garcia doing the honors. The PAT kick from Ulloa was good to make the final a 34-10 loss.
Beeville ran for 199 yards on 46 carries and passed for an additional 33 yards. Roger Salazar led the ground attack with 62 yards on 14 carries. Tristan Pelitire fought for 46 tough yards on 13 tries. Garcia had 40 yards on nine rushes. Lucas Glew finished with 35 yards on four attempts. Tanner Trevino had four carries for 10 yards. Trevino also saw his first action at quarterback for the Trojans in the late third and fourth quarters.
Kremers was one of five in passing with the lone completion going to Joe Rey Garza for 33 yards. Trevino passed once and did not connect.
West ran for 261 yards on 33 tries and passed for another 79 yards on four of six attempts by QB Garrett Rother.
The Trojans are off this week and will get ready for a home date with the Titans from Victoria East on Oct. 19.
