On Thursday, Sept. 20 the Karnes City Home and Garden Club met at the El Oso Water Supply meeting room in Karnes County. Upon entering the meeting room, members were delighted to view many beautiful sea shells displayed on all of the tables. Also, each member was given a colorful Hawaiian lei to wear.
The new officers for the year are President: Gladys Janysek; Vice President: Marlane Smith; Secretary: Dianne Maitland and Treasurer: Johnie Hall.
It was reported that a new Texas Home and Garden Club newsletter is now being published and sent to all clubs. Members were told that a Home and Garden Symposium will be held in San Antonio Oct. 21 through Oct. 23. The symposium will have speakers giving information about floral arranging and also house plants. Anyone who is interested in attending this conference may call Gladys Janysek at 830-780-2483.
The Yard of the Month for September was given to Charlie and LeAnn Braun. Their beautiful home and yard is located at 801 Adobe Street in Karnes City.
The Home and Garden Club members have on sale, right now, a nice cookbook with many tried and proven recipes inside. The cost is $15.00 each. Anyone wishing to purchase this cookbook may call Marlene Smith at 80-780-2635.
The meeting featured a wonderful speaker, Maria Mohr, from Karnes City, who is a Wesley Healthcare Nurse. Mrs. Mohr gave a very educational talk mostly about making good food choices for a healthy lifestyle and also the importance of exercise needed in our lives.
The Home and Garden Club members are right now making careful plans to assist the three scouting groups in Karnes City, namely, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and eventually Girl Scouts.
The members were honored to sponsor Mariah Villareal in the Miss Karnes City Queen’s Contest.
The members participated in the Lonesome Dove Parade and achieved 2nd place for the art design on their car.
Edna Pawelek spoke about the landscaping needs for the Veterans Memorial and the Texas Star Memorial gardens. Presenters of new ideas for Home and Garden Club are Betty Butler, Charlene Looney and Lola Lyssy. The presenters gave informative printed information with topics about foot care and 10 tips for quick cleaning of your home.
The October meeting will have a guest speaker from Cooper Garden Center in Floresville. Fall gardening and other plant-related information will be featured. Cooper Garden will also bring a lot of nice plants with them to sell to our members.
