BEEVILLE – The Trojan varsity baseball club took a slim lead into the middle innings, but the hard-charging Victoria West Warriors rallied to plate seven runs over the fourth and fifth frames to capture a 13-7 victory over the Beeville boys at Joe Hunter Field on Saturday night.

The Warriors jumped on the scoreboard first with a three-run first inning, but the Trojans got base hits from the front end of their line-up in the bottom of the inning to plate four runs to edge in front, 4-3.

The Trojans got a single run in the second inning to go up 5-3, but the lead was short-lived as the Warriors added two runs in the top of the third to square things at 5-5.

West pounded the ball and got three runs in the fourth inning and added four more runs in the fifth to take command, 12-5.

The visitors tacked on another run in the top of the seventh to reach their final total. The Trojans rallied in the bottom of the seventh to plate two runs, but it was way too little and too late to affect the outcome.

Clay Blackwell went the distance for the Trojans on the mound. He gave up 19 hits to the Warriors. Blackwell walked one and struck out three in his seven innings of work.

The Trojans piled up 10 hits in the loss and were led by Daniel Amador’s 3-for-4 night with one run and one RBI. Blackwell collected two hits in three trips with two runs and two RBIs. Elijah Fuentes was 1-3 with two runs batted in. Cameron Kremers, Trey Alaniz, Titus Puente and Marcos Ulloa also connected for base hits and all scored one run for the hosts. Joe Rey Garza also scored once.

The Trojans don’t play again until Friday when they travel to Victoria to face the East Titans. On Tuesday, the Beeville squad will host Port Lavaca at Joe Hunter Field.
