“Please join us for a pre-sale social to be held at Padilla Hall on the grounds of the Refugio County Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.,” said the livestock association spokesperson. “This will give you the opportunity to register and preview the sale order prior to the auction, which will begin at 1p.m.”
Food and drinks will be available, courtesy of the Auction Association. Any new prospective buyers are welcome to attend the social.
The Picante Sauce Contest judging will also be held during the pre-sale social. The winning picante sauce will be auctioned off at the conclusion of the sale. All proceeds are used toward scholarships.
You will have the opportunity to join the Picante Sauce Buyers Group when you register. This generous group of buyers has provided many scholarships to exhibitors of the Refugio County Fair over the years. Last year, 16 scholarships of $500 each were given to senior exhibitors of Refugio County from the Picante Sauce Scholarship Group.
The sale will be a regulated sale with placing order determining who gets the largest amount of money. The projects will be sold by the head, not by the pound.
This will be a terminal auction, which means that all animals must be processed or resold following the auction. Buyers will have the option of purchasing a project and sending it to be processed to the meat market of your choice.
Buyers will also have the option of re-selling the project for a resale price that will be listed in the sale order. Buyers will pay the difference between the auction price and resale price; however, the exhibitor will receive the entire purchase price. Poultry and rabbits will be a premium sale only.
For example, the auction purchase price minus the resale price will be the buyer’s cost; $300 minus $55 equals $245.
The auction purchase price of $300 will go the exhibitor.
This amount will be tax deductible since it is considered a donation. The Youth Livestock Auction Association is recognized as a 501(3)c non-profit organization. Buyers can help more youth by using the re-sale option because more projects can be purchased with less money.
Again, “Out-Back” sales will be offered for those projects that do not qualify for the premium auction. A list will be posted at the fairgrounds at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 14.
Buyers must write in their name on the list next to the project they want to purchase, and indicate if you want the animal processed or resold. All animals must be processed or resold.
Following the animal auction, we will again have the food auction to benefit the children in the Home Economics Division of the fair. The top placing food items will be auctioned off at whatever amount the buyer wishes to bid; however, only $100 will be received by the exhibitor.
The remaining money will go to all of the youths who entered items in the exhibit building to help supplement premiums of other placing food items.
This means that when you purchase a food item at the auction, you will also be helping over 200 other children in the exhibit building.
