Why focus on underage alcohol use?

Research provides more reasons than ever for parents, students, college professionals, community members and other adults to be alarmed about the effects of underage drinking in Texas. Among Texas college students, alcohol is the primary drug of choice -nearly double the use of other substances. Alcohol is linked to poor class attendance, low academic performance, unwanted sexual activity, depression, suicide, and alcohol poisoning.

What is a Regional Forum?

Regional Forums are opportunities for campuses and communities to connect their spheres of influence and equip themselves with information and tools to effectively collaborate for change at local, regional, and state levels. Texans Standing Tall is partnering with Circles of San Antonio Community Coalition, The REAL Alcohol Coalition, The University of Texas at San Antonio Student Health Services, San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, and San Antonio Fighting Back, Inc to hold the College Regional Forum in San Antonio.

What can I expect?

Experienced professionals in alcohol prevention and community change will equip participants with tools, information, and resources to prevent and reduce underage alcohol use among college students. College Forums will feature education and breakout groups on strategies including Screening and Brief Intervention and social host ordinances.
