George West Council names former Laredo public staffer Oscar Ramirez as city manager
Oscar Ramirez of Laredo was appointed George West city manager during the City Council meeting of Nov. 16.
Ramirez officially started during Thanksgiving week; however, this past week was his first full week as city manager.
Ramirez came from Laredo and said he served in public administration for 13 years, working with capital improvement projects, municipal planning, water and wastewater utilities as well as other municipal programs with the City of Laredo, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the South Texas Development Council.
Ramirez said, “My initial goals for the City of George West include replacing the existing, historic, water and wastewater infrastructure in order to ensure stability in the municipal services provided to the current and future citizens of George West. I would like to improve the level of public service to the people of George West by bringing in more retail, commercial, medical and manufacturing jobs. Additionally, I have experience in the procurement and management of federal, state and local grants.”
The George West Chamber of Commerce and First National Bank, George West will host a “Meet & Greet” for Ramirez on Friday (Dec. 11) between 9 and 10:30 a.m. at the bank to welcome him to the community.
“This is your opportunity to introduce yourself and/or your business, inform him of your concerns for the community and make him feel welcome. We hope you will make plans to join us and show him what a warm, friendly community we have,” said Becky Allen, executive director for the George West Chamber of Commerce.
