Laedeke to participate in Distinguished Youth of Texas program

Maci Kay Laedeke, daughter of Corina Venable and granddaughter of Lola Palmer, of Karnes City, has been selected as a candidate in the Distinguished Youth of Texas Scholarship and Recognition Program to held Nov. 19 - Dec. 1 at the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel in San Antonio.During the weekend competition, two students will be chosen to receive a $1,000 cash scholarship and the right to serve as a State Program Titleholder for one year. In all, more than $5,000 in awards and prizes will be presented to various participants. The program finals will be held Sunday afternoon, Dec. 1 at the hotel and culminate in the naming of the new Little Miss Texas and the new Young Miss of Texas.

The program is designed to recognize girls in grades 2-7 who rank high academically and who are leaders in their schools and communities. The judging criteria used to select the two state titleholders includes the following: scholastic record, service to school and community, personality projection and interview.

Maci is an active member of Panna Maria 4-H Club. She participates in horse judging, hippology, food show, clothing and textiles and photography. She is a fourth grader student at Roger E. Sides Elementary. Macy plays basketball and softball. She wants to attend Texas A&M someday like her sister Jessie Hoffman.
