District Judge Joel Johnson presided.
Juan Rosales Carrillo, 47, of Three Rivers, was indicted on two counts of aggravated assault, threat against a public servant with a deadly weapon and two counts of aggravated assault, threat with deadly weapon against a family member.
Three Rivers Police Department Officer Ray Medrano said he first got a call at 10:37 p.m. April 3, 2010, about an intoxicated man beating up his ex-wife and her friend with a firearm.
“I arrived at the scene shortly after,” Medrano said. But Carrillo was not at the address in the 500 block of Thornton.
By then, Medrano said he was joined by Sheriff’s Deputy Joey Rodriguez and a Department of Public Safety trooper.
They went to check out Carrillo’s home just out of the city limits in the 6000 block of U.S. Highway 281 North.
“Law enforcement arrived about 11:20 p.m. at the house, and Carrillo was spotted at his front door,” Medrano said.
Carrillo was asked to come out and speak to the officers. Instead, he fired a round, Medrano said.
After that, it was a standoff that lasted all night.
At 7:50 a.m. April 4, Carrillo was spotted walking out of the house.
“That’s when the deputies made contact with him,” Medrano said.
