The collision occurred at 2:30 p.m., according to Department of Public Safety Trooper Charlie Ramirez. A total of seven people were involved in the fatality.
All drivers and passengers were wearing seat belts, according to Ramirez.
Ramirez said the driver of the light brown Chevrolet pickup, George Matthew Sapp, 33, of Clay Road, was traveling at a high rate of speed when he exited I-37 on the access road to state Highway 799 and then failed to stop at the stop sign.
The driver of a silver Ford F-150, Reginald Sullivan, 67, of George West, was traveling west on state Highway 799 and hit Matthew’s truck broadside.
Sapp had non life-threatening injuries.
The center passenger in Sapp’s truck, Shawnee Nicole Perkins, 25, of Wichita Falls, was killed.
Paula JoAnn Carter, 30, of Wichita Falls, the front right passenger in Sapp’s truck, was in critical condition and transported to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi.
Elizabeth Carter, 5, of Wichita Falls, also in Matthew’s truck, was in critical condition, and Bethany Carter, 2, was in the middle back seat in Matthew’s truck. They were transported by helicopter to Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi.
Also, Arianne Barclar, 2, in the rear right seat of Sapp’s truck was in critical condition with head trauma, according to Ramirez.
Ramirez said likely Sapp will be cited.
In addition to the Department of Public Safety, also on the scene were the George West Volunteer Fire Department, Live Oak County Sheriff’s Department, George West Police Department, Acadian Ambulance Service.
