Whereas, Anne Range Hinton, a native of Live Oak County, Texas, was bom on June 3. 1919, and rose to be an educator, wife, parent, friend and civic leader in the George West Community; and
Whereas, Anne graduated from the Texas Woman’s University in 1941 and moved to George West where she was employed as a teacher for the George West Independent School District; and
Whereas, Anne met Harry L. Hinton, a coach and high school principal, and in the spring of 1943 they married after Harry was commissioned in the U.S. Marine Corps; and
Whereas, while Harry served in the South Pacific during World War II, Anne was employed in Beaumont. Texas in defense industries; and
Whereas, after the war, Anne and her husband returned to Live Oak County, where Harry returned to his teaching and Anne became a homemaker; and
Whereas. Harry and Anne reared four children - John, Stephen, Melissa and Byron, and she was deeply involved in her children’s cultural and extracurricular activities; and
Whereas, Anne has volunteered and served on many organizations which include the City of George West Council. Unify to Beautify, Business and Professional Woman’s Club, Twentieth Century Club, 4-H, Sunday School teacher at the Church of Christ, Organized the reunion of the county schools during the Live Oak County Centennial, George West Garden Club where she won numerous awards in flower shows, and continues to be an active member in the bridge club, City of George West Planning & Zoning Commission, lifetime member of the Grace Armantrout Museum, and Oakville Cemetery Association; and
Whereas Anne is presently active in duplicate bridge, physical fitness and eating healthy and continues to touch the hearts of those she comes in contact with as a good friend and a dedicated public servant.
Now, therefore, pursuant to the powers vested in me as Mayor of the City of George West, I do hereby proclaim June 5, 2009 as
“Anne Hinton Day”
